About the roleA specialist in environmental history, you will bring your specific expertise to bear in helping our students to explore human relationships with the rest of the natural world over and through time. The University has a clear commitment to addressing environmental issues through our research and teaching, in a variety of disciplinary contexts, and this is an opportunity to contribute historical perspectives to this.
The Humanities at Bath Spa UniversityWe have recently completed a major review of all our courses in the Humanities, to enable us to offer an applied, socially engaged, and increasingly responsive curriculum. We have a strong focus on interdisciplinarity, the integration of professional practice and professional skills within all our teaching, and an explicit commitment to demonstrating the value of the Humanities inside and outside the University. We are now looking to appoint to two posts within the History team (a Lecturer in Environmental History and a Lecturer in Global Histories) to contribute to our wider Humanities teaching and to the further development of the subject in its own right. We are a small team, with specialist interests in early modern and modern British history, the history of popular cultures, and public history in a variety of forms. We work increasingly closely with colleagues in Politics and International Relations, Environmental Humanities, Publishing, Creative Writing and Journalism, all of which might draw on historical content and approaches.About youYou must be excited by the possibilities offered by working across disciplinary boundaries as well as within them, and be willing to contribute to the wide range of team taught modules which embrace multiple perspectives, methodologies and bodies of knowledge. The primary focus of both posts, in the first instance, will be on undergraduate teaching and on providing an excellent student experience.
